National Museum of Modern India Opens in Delhi with Landmark Exhibition

The National Museum of Modern India, a Rs 1,800 crore architectural marvel designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Balkrishna Doshi’s firm, has opened its doors to the public in New Delhi. The museum, located on a 15-acre campus near India Gate, houses the country’s most comprehensive collection of modern and contemporary Indian art.

The inaugural exhibition, titled ‘India After Independence: 75 Years of Art’, brings together over 2,000 works spanning painting, sculpture, photography, and new media from 1947 to the present.

The museum’s design draws inspiration from traditional Indian stepwell architecture, with interconnected galleries descending into the earth around a central courtyard. Natural light floods the exhibition spaces through carefully positioned skylights.
